Our Hospice and Palliative Services | VITAS Healthcare

VITAS Provides a Full Range of Care Services

VITAS has the resources and expertise to help patients stay at home, wherever they call home.

VITAS covers all prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, medical equipment and supplies related to the patient’s terminal illness. VITAS accepts Medicare and Medicaid as 100% coverage for its hospice services; there are no out-of-pocket expenses to patients or their loved ones. When a patient is privately insured, VITAS contacts the insurer about hospice coverage.

VITAS provides four levels of care, which may change as the patient’s needs change.
  • Home care — Most people nearing the end of life want to remain in the comfort of their own homes. Members of your VITAS team schedule regular visits to meet your needs.
  • Intensive Comfort Care® — If a patient needs more constant care, VITAS provide shifts of home care for a brief period, avoiding hospitalization.
  • Inpatient hospice care — When a patient needs care beyond what can be provided at home, VITAS has arrangements with healthcare facilities to provide inpatient care until the patient can return home.
  • Respite care — When a family caregiver needs time away, the patient can move to an inpatient setting for up to five days of routine care.

Fast access, day or night. When you call hospice, you may need support immediately. That’s why you can call our admissions nurse any time, 365 days a year, to schedule a free evaluation or consultation. Telecare® offers VITAS patients and their families 24/7/365 access to hospice nurses who can answer questions, access patient records or dispatch a team member to the home, as needed.

VITAS' veterans program provides trained staff and customized care plans to meet military veterans’ unique physical and mental health needs near the end of life.
